A quartz heater is a common electric heating device.

Working Principle

It uses quartz material as the tube and sets a resistance wire inside. When an electric current passes through the resistance wire, the resistance wire generates heat, and the generated heat is radiated outward in the form of radiation. Quartz has good light transmittance and can make the heat radiate more efficiently in the form of infrared rays, thus achieving the purpose of quickly heating surrounding objects or spaces.

Structural Features

  • Heating Element: The core part is the built-in resistance wire, which is generally made of materials such as nickel-chromium alloy that have high temperature resistance, oxidation resistance, and high resistivity to ensure stability and service life under long-term high-temperature operation.
  • Quartz Tube: Made of high-purity quartz glass, it has the characteristics of high temperature resistance (can withstand hundreds of degrees Celsius), good chemical stability (not easy to chemically react with other substances), and high light transmittance (conducive to infrared radiation). At the same time, the quartz tube can also protect the internal resistance wire and prevent it from directly contacting the outside air and accelerating oxidation.
  • Terminal: Used to connect to the power supply so that the current can smoothly pass into the resistance wire. It is usually insulated and heat-resistant to ensure safe use.

Application Fields

  • Industrial Field: In the plastic processing industry, it is used to heat plastic raw materials to make them reach a molten state for easy molding; in the printing industry, it can quickly dry ink; in food processing, it is used in links such as baking and heating food.
  • Home Life: Commonly found in various heating equipment, such as quartz heaters, which can quickly increase the local temperature in the room and provide warmth for people in cold weather; it can also be used to dry some small items, such as jewelry, small tools, etc.
  • Medical and Scientific Research: In some medical equipment, it is used to maintain a specific temperature environment; in scientific research experiments, when precise temperature control conditions are required, quartz heaters can also play a role, for example, in scenarios where a certain chemical reaction requires constant temperature heating.

Advantages

  • Fast Heating Speed: It can reach a relatively high temperature in a short time, which greatly saves preheating time compared with some traditional heating methods.
  • High Thermal Efficiency: The heating method of infrared radiation enables the heat to be more directly absorbed by objects, reducing heat loss during the transmission process.
  • Long Service Life: Due to the characteristics of quartz materials and high-quality resistance wires, the service life of the quartz heater is relatively long under normal use conditions.
  • Environmental Protection and Cleanliness: No harmful substances and waste gas are generated during the working process, and it will not generate a large amount of dust like some heating equipment, which is friendly to the environment.

Disadvantages

  • Limited Radiation Range: Although the heating speed is fast, the radiation range is relatively narrow. For large-area heating needs, multiple quartz heaters may need to be used in combination.
  • High Safety Requirements: The surface temperature is relatively high during operation. If touched carelessly, it is easy to cause burns; and during the installation and use process, insulation and protection measures need to be taken to avoid safety accidents such as electric shock.
